Wong Tran and Samuel Miles - July 2011
Two work experience students from Haberdasher’s Aske’s College Hatchem, recently took part in a one week placement at GSTS Pathology.
Wong Tran and Samuel Miles visited the UK’s largest independent pathology provider to expand their understanding of the healthcare industry, which both have aspirations to enter once they have finished their studies.
The two students worked in a range of areas of the business, including Central Specimen Reception, Infection and Biochemical Sciences to experience the various opportunities available at GSTS.
“I found working at GSTS gave me the chance to explore the range of services they provide,” he said.
“The most interesting part for me was working in Infection where I was able to see all the different agar plates and swabs and the different bacteria that grows, some of which smelled quite ‘funky’.”
Both Samuel and Wong recognised the benefits of work experience to their future career prospects within the industry.
“It looks good on your CV to be able to say that you have had professional experience in a large organisation,” said Wong.
